2021 Awards Criteria and Submissions

Writers Awards

Each year at the Golden Gate Conference, we award the annual Golden Gate Writer’s Award–one for a picture book and one for a Middle Grade or Young Adult novel. We’re keeping the tradition going for the Golden Gate Year Conference.

Faculty will choose candidates for the Writer’s Award from those writers who submit their work for a paid manuscript critique. The candidates will be judged at the end of the year by the Regional Team.

Winners receive:

A mention on our website

A complimentary registration to the Golden Gate Conference 2022

Note: Once you have been given an award, you are not eligible to win again for three years.

Illustrator Award

The Best-In-Show Award will be announced after the Keynote presentation. The winner will have the opportunity to be our featured illustrator on our website, on our social media, and win a free registration to September 2021’s Illustration Conference. Illustrators are automatically entered into the judging for the showcase contest when they sign up. (If, for whatever reason, illustrators want to be in the portfolio showcase but do not want to be eligible for the award, they should sign up and contact Isabella at sfsouth-ic@scbwi.org to request exclusion from judging.)

As we get questions, we will add the FAQs to this page. Also, see the FAQ sections on many of the secondary conference pages (found through the navigation in the sidebar to the right.)

Note: Once you have been given an award, you are not eligible to win again for three years.
